FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Town acquires 3-year-old Holstein Cow
The Strathmore Sylvia Experience to open July 29th

STRATHMORE, ALBERTA | APRIL 1, 2022 – The Town of Strathmore’s low bid on 3-year-old Holstein Cow, Randolph Elias IV has been accepted. Town leadership was notified of bid acceptance on March 31st. The pursuit of Randolph was initiated by the municipality at the beginning of March.

“On March 20, 1908 the Town of Strathmore officially became a community when the hamlet was incorporated as a village” says Geoff Person, Manager of Communications, Marketing, and Economic Development at the Town. “Celebrating the anniversary of Strathmore’s incorporation honours past generations who have built our community. When we learned that bovine-hero, Strathmore Sylvia’s 20th-generation grandson was up for auction in southern Ontario, an opportunity presented itself and we moved quickly” says Person.

Over the next few weeks Randolph will make his 3,400 km trek across Canada to his new habitat at Kinsmen Park. Person says The Strathmore Sylvia Experience will be an interactive exhibit where residents and tourists come together to honour Sylvia right here at Kinsmen Park. “It’s an absolutely breathtaking display! Sylvia in all her glory… right here outside the Strathmore Municipal Building and in her brand-new paddock. This is where she belongs… she’s home.” Says Person.

The Strathmore Sylvia Experience is set to open July 29th, the first day of historic Strathmore Stampede. Sylvia will be reporting to Donna McCallum, Operations Manager with the Town but will maintain a dotted line to Geoff Person. Although the exhibit is technically open year-round, Donna makes it clear that Sylvia is only expected to be on shift from 8:30-4:30 M-F.

Randolph’s renaming ceremony will take place July 1st at 7am.
