Municipal Building

Construction is done, we're moved in, and we're open to the public!

This new building is a centrepiece of a five-year strategy to revitalize Downtown Strathmore. Our team is now able to deliver improved services and the new Strathmore Municipal Building provides new amenities for Kinsmen Park. The Strathmore Commons project added new features to the Farmer's Market Pavilion, the new Tom Sadler Pedestrian Bridge, and additional landscaping in Kinsmen Park.

 Project Background

The Town of Strathmore has almost tripled in size since the construction of our current Town Offices. The current location is at capacity and has reached the end of its building lifespan. The need for a new space is required to address these issues, allow for expansion, and provide “one stop” services to residents and businesses as Strathmore grows.

A decision was made to locate the new municipal building in the north-east corner of the Kinsmen Park parking lot. Previous Councils and current Council have carefully listened to feedback, criticism and considered all options to come to this decision. Considerations such as cost, location (far from downtown), existing leases in place, and inability to house all current and future staff with no potential for expansion led to this option to accommodate future Town needs.

Kinsmen Park will remain an integral and vital place in the community. The goal with the new Municipal Building is to enhance this community focal point and to enhance the features of the park, while providing valued services to residents and businesses.

Bumps in the Road

Mayor Pat Fule addressed concerns about the Strathmore Municipal Building in a special video address. A mid-project report was created in early spring 2020 to answer questions about the Strathmore Municipal Building. The project was completed on schedule by December 2020.

Cost Reports: Two reports on the costs for the project were received by Council at their November 18 Regular Meeting.

Project Reports:

  • Improved service delivery at a centralized Strathmore Municipal Building
  • More cost effective and efficient services to the community, with elimination of leased office spaces
  • The current Municipal Building will become an integral part of the vitalization and enhancement of Downtown Strathmore
  • The location of Kinsmen Park is a hub for many community events and gatherings that bring our community together. Kinsmen Park will benefit with the addition of year-round accessible washrooms. The location will also bring more people into the downtown area of Strathmore.
  • There are new parking stalls to accommodate for the current parking.
