Discover Downtown Treasure Hunt
Throughout July and potentially August, the Town of Strathmore will be giving away a $1000 Shopping Spree on Third Avenue! Every Thursday, watch for clues being released online, in the paper, and at businesses on Third Avenue. Use these clues to piece together the location of the prize and get there before anyone else! The prize will be hidden in an accessible area, NOT in a construction zone, in the vicinity of Third Avenue. Check out the contest teaser HERE.
As of July 27th, our Prize has been located! Congratulations to Lynn and Linda! Please join us August 23rd during our Night Market to award them their prize!
Second Avenue Revitalization
Last year Second Avenue received a much-needed facelift. This summer festival crowds will enjoy the sights of delicious “lollypop trees”, beautiful baskets hanging from elegant lamp posts, while relaxing on fine furniture features, situated at each corner plaza. New road top and wider sidewalks also add functional appeal to the new streetscape. The size of parking stalls will be adjusted this summer -stay tuned for the line painting schedule.
Third Avenue Streetscape Revitalization
The Town of Strathmore completed the tender process for the Third Avenue Revitalization Project, awarding the tender to Bluebird Contraction LTD. Construction begins June 4th, ending around July 31st, occurring on Third Avenue between Lakeside Blvd and Third Street SE. Construction will occur in phases. During each phase, the area will experience short-term road closures and lane restrictions to ensure pedestrian, worker and driver safety.
Various short-term road closures and lane restrictions may occur to ensure pedestrian, worker and driver safety. Please note – work is weather dependant, inclement weather and other factors can affect schedules.
On street parking will NOT be permitted adjacent to construction areas. Businesses with affected access will have temporary walkways installed and crushed gravel entrances for access.
We ask motorists to drive with caution in construction zones and adhere to the speed limit and traffic controls.
General Road Repair Information
Utility replacement coordination: coordinating with utility providers to ensure any planned utility work can be done before a new surface is paved.
Concrete work: This includes removing and replacing concrete curb and walk along the roadway.
Base repairs and reconstruction: This involves repairing sections of road where surface deterioration has occurred in the base layer of asphalt. This requires excavation activity.
Paving: This involves milling the old surface and paving.
Road markings: The road markings will be replaced on the road surface shortly after the paving is completed.
What are the construction impacts?
Residential and Business access will be detoured during construction but re-opened as quickly as possible. New pavement can take up to three hours to cool and traffic restrictions will need to remain until this is finished.
How is the Third Avenue project different from Second Avenue?
Third Avenue will receive upgrades like Second Avenue, minus the storm sewer installation as Third Avenue already contains an existing system. The storm sewer system is older but has been spot repaired in 2010.
Why is this work necessary?
To extend the service life and improve the safety of our roadways.
The Town of Strathmore and Bluebird Contracting Services would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding.
