Investing in Strathmore's Future
INVESTING IN STRATHMORE'S FUTUREA Legacy for our community as we celebrate Canada 150At its regular meeting of January 25, 2017, Town Council approved a borrowing bylaw for $6,000,000 as part of the 2017 Capital Budget. The capital improvement program will invest in Strathmore’s future during Canada’s 150th anniversary of confederation. The vision of the program is to celebrate our heritage, create jobs in the community and improve the quality of life in Strathmore. There are four main aspects of the investment:
Working with the Downtown Design Review Committee, the Downtown Business Community and the Chamber of Commerce, the Town will invest in new streetscape features which will spark pride and foster community spirit. Street furniture and landscaping are included.
This program involves improvements to Gray’s Park, Lambert Park, and Kinsmen Park. The work includes new energy efficient lighting, playground upgrades, a community pavilion, and pathway connectivity upgrades and lake clean up.
Mobility access to the 2nd floor will be installed in the Aquatic Centre and the waterslide will be enclosed for year round use and enjoyment. A steam room/sauna will be added to provide more complete service to patrons of the facility.
The Lambert Centre will receive an exterior facelift and some renovations in the interior.
4.Municipal Office Development
The Town has outgrown the existing office space and as with other older, overcrowded buildings, health and safety issues have arisen. A new facility will be more efficient from an operating perspective and being housed in one location will improve staff efficiencies as well as provide more convenient public service.
The present economy provides an opportunity for the Town to acquire and improve tangible assets when interest rates are at an historic low. These capital projects will provide lasting enhancements for the community and are consistent with Council’s 2017 Long Term Financial Plan.
