Volunteer Perks
- Each week there will be a lunch and learn. Bring your lunch and we’ll provide the learning (how to build your resume, write a cover letter, interview skills, tips on working with children, developing skills, and more!)
- We believe work should feel like play—so we dive into games, laughter, and imagination right alongside the children. As a thank you, you will receive FREE access to Town recreation facilities for the summer! (Aquatic Centre, Family Centre Arena, and Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre).
- Position Summary:
The Volunteer Camp Counsellor will work with the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre team in ensuring the well-being and safety of all participants, facilitate games and activities, provide daily feedback to the Sports Centre Manager, and maintain a fun and inclusive environment for the participants. This position allows you to gain new skills and train to be a future Summer Camp Counsellor. We require a minimum commitment of two weeks, however; if you want to volunteer for longer, we would be happy to have you!
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with implementation of the daily camp programs for children ages 4-12 years
- Swimming
- Ice Skating
- Goat Yoga
- Field trips and more!
- Ensure the health and safety of the children participating in the summer camp program
- Act as a positive role model and leader at all times
- Actively participate in all camp-related activities
- Ensure that all work areas are kept clean and organized and all equipment is well maintained
- Build positive relationships with camp staff, participants, and parents
- Follow all Town of Strathmore policies and procedures as required
- Perform duties in accordance with all Town safety policies and OH&S requirements
- Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:
- Previous camp experience is considered an asset
- Coaching or leadership training and experience would be considered an asset, along with previous experience working with youth and youth programs
- Possession of Standard First AID/CPR C certification (or plans to complete before you start)
Our interview questions are intended to assess the following behaviours:
- A passion for working with children and ability to keep them engaged
- Ability to communicate effectively with camp participants, parents, and other staff
- Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, including strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
