Strathmore has an exciting opportunity seeking an experienced Taxation Clerk.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Utilities Supervisor, this position will play an integral role in the collection, recording and processing of property taxes and land title changes for the Town of Strathmore.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Collecting, recording and processing of property taxes
  • Preparing, recording and processing of tax, assessment and supplementary notices and processing 305 assessment changes
  • Downloading and processing Land Title changes
  • Preparing Tax Notifications, sets up payment schedule/agreements and processes annual tax notification list as set out in the Municipal Government Act, including the filing of proper documentation with Land Titles
  • Preparing and posting of Tax Certificates
  • Recording supplementary assessments and balance to Assessor’s Trial Balance
  • Preparing of monthly reconciliation of trial balances to the general ledger system
  • Processing of Penalty Charges and interest on Tax Accounts
  • Assisting the other finance department clerks when required
  • Preparing, recording and processing of the monthly tax payment plan
  • Quarterly and year-end reconciliation of tax accounts receivable, assessment-tax revenue account balancing and tax certificate drawing accounts
  • Organizing and maintaining computer operations related to the tax system
  • Ordering and designing tax and assessment forms as required
  • Outlining and coordinating required changes to the tax software with the Town’s programmer
  • Resolving tax inquiries
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Utilities Supervisor

Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:

  • Post-secondary education with a concentration in accounting
  • Continual professional development in relevant field
  • Two years accounting experience
  • Two years experience with computers (ex: Microsoft Windows and MS Office Suite)
  • Experience with Diamond and Great Plains
