Position Summary:

The role of the Senior Lifeguard is to maintain the overall operations of the aquatic facility and to meet Provincial Health and Safety Standards while adhering to all relevant legislation, policy and procedure. This position is responsible for supervising, delegating and providing the aquatic team with accurate and timely information to ensure facility operations are maintained in an effective and efficient manner. It is also the responsibility of the Senior Lifeguard to handle any public relation concerns and effectively enforce facility rules to ensure the safety of the public and minimize hazards. This position will supervise all activities during shift to provide quality swimming lessons, fitness classes and other programs and services.

It is our goal to provide exceptional aquatic programs and services in a safe environment to enhance the quality of life with the hopes to inspire personal growth in all areas of aquatics. The Senior Lifeguard reports to the Head Lifeguard.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Responsible for the overall operations of the facility to meet the Provincial Health and Safety Standards. 
  • Responsible for the collection, documentation and accurately recording water chemistry levels and if needed adjust to maintain ideal ranges to meet Alberta Health and Safety Pool Standards. This position will be required to work with pool related chemicals.
  • Responsible for checking and documenting all mechanical readings in the facility including pressure gauges, flow meters, temperature gauges and UV systems etc.
  • Responsible for reviewing the completion of all record keeping on shift, examples: first aid reports, fecal reports, stats etc.
  • Responsible for providing guidance, instruction and support to other Lifeguards / Instructors, Lifeguard 2’s, Fitness Instructors and monitors duties assigned to make sure all tasks are being completed safely and in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for making sure all janitorial duties have been completed and signed off
  • Responsible for opening and closing the facility.
  • Responsible for the layout of the pool area, pool programs and special events with appropriate equipment available etc.
  • Responsible for handling all problems / concerns that might arise on shift regarding the facility, general public and or team members. Senior Lifeguard is responsible for calling the appropriate contact person from the emergency call out list.
  • Assist with orientation and mandatory training of Lifeguards / Instructors, Lifeguards 2’s and Fitness Instructors.
  • Performs Lifeguarding duties as required and Instructs the Canadian Red Cross Programs and Lifeguarding Courses.
  • Responsible for approving and signing off balanced cash out reports.

 

Education: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current National Lifeguard Certificate
  • Current Standard First Aid
  • Current CPR C / AED (current within one year)
  • Canadian Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
  • Lifesaving Instructor an asset
  • Swimming Pool Operator Level 1 an asset
  • 2-year supervisory experience in aquatics
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence
  • All other awards would be considered an asset

  • Ability to self-motivate and or work well within a team
  • Required to wear uniform
  • Ability to prevent dangerous situations, recognizing the signs of emergencies and taking appropriate action
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and delegate tasks within your scheduled shift

 

Working Conditions:

  • This position will require standing, kneeling, lifting (include weight required up 50 lbs), etc.
  • Driving is a requirement of this position
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position
  • This is an Essential Service position
  • This position will require an acceptable Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check, and also a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

  

This position requires the individual to work 25 hrs / week

Shifts will vary depending on the pool schedule
