Seasonal Parks Operator

Full Time (40 Hrs/Week) – 6 Month Term

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, the Seasonal Parks Operator is responsible for operating a variety of light equipment in completing tasks related to, but not limited to, parks operations. We are looking for an optimistic, self-driven and highly motivated individual to join the Operations team for our 2021-22 season.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Operate a variety of light duty equipment (hand tools, mowers, weed trimmers, backpack blowers, rototillers, snow removal equipment, etc.)
  • Maintain outdoor parks amenities for public use and assist in community and civic events
  • Maintain parks, pathways, green spaces, flower beds, planters, trees and horticultural displays
  • Maintain sidewalks, curbs, gutters and asphalt pavement
  • Coordinate as part of a team to keep pathways, sidewalks, roads and facilities clear during winter snow events according to priority routes
  • Respond to and investigate service requests and help resolve operational concerns
  • Ensure administrative duties of the position are performed (work orders, checklists, FLHAs and purchase orders)
  • Assist in the repair of Town Infrastructure, as required
  • Assist other departments with operating duties, as required

Working Conditions:

  • Capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and physically able to perform required duties
  • Capable of walking, sitting, lifting and standing for extended periods of time
  • Required to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide their own CSA approved steel toed boots

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Minimum Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence
  • Ability to operate various maintenance equipment and tools
  • Training in First Aid, WHMIS, and Flag Person Safety are all considered assets
  • Experience in landscaping and horticulture will also be considered an asset
  • Consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check and provision of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
  • References from recent employers will be required as part of the recruitment process

The Town of Strathmore has implemented a Mandatory Vaccination Policy requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment. Exemptions are available for those who cannot be fully vaccinated on the basis of a protected legal ground (i.e., medical, religious). Hours:

The work week is typically Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week which will include weekend and statutory holiday coverage shifts on a rotational basis, as required.

Compensation:

The Town of Strathmore total compensation package includes a competitive salary, based on qualifications and experience.
