Casual Facility Operator

The Family Centre houses two ice rinks, one NHL sized and one Olympic sized. The facility also has a fully licensed concession with seating, skate shop, and various tenant leased spaces. The facility is open year-round regularly utilized for ice hockey, ringette, figure skating, lacrosse as well as various drop-in programs.

Position Summary:

The purpose of the Casual Facility Operator role is to work in a team environment to operate the Strathmore Family Centre Arena and Strathmore Civic Centre. This includes all aspects of ice rink maintenance and all facility equipment operation including refrigeration plant operations and janitorial duties. Role also includes event operations at the Civic Centre. This role requires a large amount of walking, working on slippery surfaces and repetitive labour work. Must be able to lift 100 lbs occasionally and carry 50 lbs regularly.

Key Responsibilities Include:

General

  • Effective time management of multiple facility schedules.
  • High expectation of communicating effectively in a team environment.
  • Participating in the Town’s Health & Safety Program and following all workplace procedures.

Ice & Plant Operations

  • Operation and maintenance of the ice resurfacers, ice edgers, lifts, and other equipment as required.
  • Ensuring all daily/weekly/monthly etc. shift checklist and documentation are completed as required.

Event Operations

  • Ensuring event setups/take-downs at the Civic Centre are completed on-time.
  • Making periodic security sweeps of the facilities and enforcing facility rules.

Facility Operations

  • Providing snow and ice control during snow fall events.
  • All aspects of facility janitorial duties including cleaning dressing rooms, washrooms, and walkways.
  • Providing general repair and/or troubleshooting on facility equipment.
  • Operation of all HVAC and some light maintenance (replacing filters).

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1 year of arena operations experience
  • Arena Operator Level 1
  • Basic First Aid, CPR & AED
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence
  • Consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check and provision of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ICS 200
  • Aerial Work Platform (AWP)
  • Building Maintenance Level 1

 

Hours:

The work week is mainly evening and weekends, with a variable schedule.
