Seasonal – Contract Position (40 hrs/week)

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Sports Centre Programmer and under the direction of the Summer Camp Coordinator, the Summer Camp Counsellor will operate primarily out of the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre and will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of a safe, fun, experience rich, summer camp experience. As a Summer Camp Counsellor, you will ensure the well-being and safety of all participants, facilitate games and activities, provide daily feedback to the Summer Camp Coordinator, and maintain a fun and inclusive environment for the participants.

We are looking for four (4) enthusiastic Summer Camp Counsellors to join our recreation team.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Implementation of the daily camp programs for children ages 6-12 years
  • Ensure the health and safety of the children participating in the summer camp program
  • Act as a positive role model and leader at all times
  • Actively participate in all camp related activities (e.g. field trips, games, crafts, etc.)
  • Ensure that all work areas are kept clean and organized and all equipment is well maintained
  • Build positive relationships with camp staff, participants, and parents
  • Follow all Town of Strathmore policies and procedures as required
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills and Experience:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with camp participants, parents, and other staff
  • Ability to adapt to changing needs and circumstances, including strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Coaching or leadership training and experience would be considered an asset along with previous experience working with youth and youth programs


  • Counsellors must be 16 years of age or older; one year or more of college/university preferred
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (including CPR)
  • Must consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector)


This is a seasonal position scheduled to start mid-June 2021 and last until the end of August 2021.  This position is based on a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.  Some overtime work may be required.
