SUMMER CAMP COORDINATOR - TOS2021-11

Seasonal – Contract Position (40 hrs/week)

Position Summary:

The Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for the organization and operation of an effective, safe, and smooth functioning summer camp program at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre.

Reporting to the Sports Centre Programmer, the Summer Camp Coordinator will plan, implement, and supervise all summer camp activities (in accordance with Town of Strathmore policies and procedures) for up to 40 campers. The candidate will possess strong leadership skills and will provide ongoing direction and leadership to the Summer Camp Counsellors.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Support the planning, coordination, and facilitation of the summer camp program at the Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre
  • Maintain high levels of staff morale by providing mentorship and direction to the Summer Camp Counsellors
  • Prepare and implement pre-camp staff training sessions, conduct daily camp staff meetings, and monitor staff performance throughout the summer, providing positive and constructive feedback
  • Perform administrative tasks including, managing participant registration forms, monitoring camp budgets and expenses, as well as submitting facility booking requests
  • Promote effective communication between parents, campers, and staff.  Address staff or camper discipline problems with appropriate and accepted practices
  • Take action to deal with incidents, problems, emergencies and parent concerns while complying with Town of Strathmore policies and procedures
  • Research, organize and implement special events, and field trips. Ensure field trip safety procedures are reviewed by all staff prior to all offsite trips
  • All other duties as assigned

Skills & Experience:

  • Previous experience directing, planning and facilitating recreational programs or camps for children, would be considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to take charge and motivate others

Qualifications:

  • Post secondary education in Recreation, Kinesiology, Education or equivalent experience.
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (including CPR)
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence
  • Must consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector)
  • High Five Certified an asset

Hours:

This is a seasonal position scheduled to start May 2021 and last until the end of August 2021.  This position is based on a 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday.  Some overtime work may be required.
