Building Maintenance Operator

Full Time – Permanent (40 Hrs/Week)

Position Overview:

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Building Maintenance Operator is the front line representative responsible for maintaining a variety of Town owned and operated facilities while contributing to the Town of Strathmore’s strategic initiatives. We are looking for an optimistic, professional, and highly motivated individual to join the Operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to and prioritize daily service requests, initiate work orders and provide immediate assistance in building emergency situations such as sewer back ups, roof leaks, overhead door malfunctions and other building maintenance urgencies
  • Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance inspections on structures, equipment, and hardware at all Town owned facilities. Document observations for short-term maintenance and long-term life cycle replacement.
  • Execute scheduled and on-demand building maintenance activities
  • Project manage approved facility capital projects
  • Perform non-routine repairs, as required
  • Negotiate, hire, and supervise trades and contractors
  • Complete daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly inspection on facilities and facility equipment
  • Coordinate licensed inspections, as required
  • Research and purchase equipment and supplies
  • Coordinate inspections of fire extinguishers, AED devices, backflow preventers, alarms etc.
  • Conduct minor construction and plumbing repairs and replacements

Required Education, Skills, and Experience:

  • Must have a minimum of Grade 12 education
  • Building Maintenance System Certificate or equivalent considered an asset
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical and HVAC systems
  • Can work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Advanced problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized, with strong documentation skills
  • Experience operating manlifts, power equipment, power tools, and maintenance equipment pertaining to facility maintenance will be considered an asset

Working conditions:

  • This position requires standing, sitting, and walking for long periods of time, lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, and working in all weather conditions
  • Driving is a requirement of this position
  • Successful candidates will be required to provide their own CSA approved steel toed boots

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence
  • Standard First Aid – Level C – with AED (Candidates without this qualification will be required to obtain certificate at own cost)
  • Prior to beginning work, the successful candidate will be required to provide an acceptable Driver’s Abstract and consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check
  • References from recent employers will be required as part of the recruitment process

The Town of Strathmore has implemented a Mandatory Vaccination Policy requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment.  Exemptions are available for those who cannot be fully vaccinated on the basis of a protected legal ground (i.e. medical, religious).  The successful candidate will be asked to provide proof of vaccination or request an exemption as part of the recruitment process.

Hours: 

Regular schedule is 40 hrs/week (Monday-Friday). Schedule will also include after-hours, weekend, statutory holiday & on-call coverage on a rotational basis.

The Town of Strathmore total compensation package includes a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits and insurance package with flexible spending component, and also LAPP pension eligibility.
