Water Reservoir Upgrades

As the lifecycle of Brentwood Reservoir comes to an end, upgrades to the Wildflower Reservoir are required in order to decommission Brentwood Reservoir without having an impact on services.
Strathmore's Master Servicing Study completed in 2020 found the Brentwood water reservoir to be nearing its end of life. With plans to close the reservoir and upgrade the Wildflower Reservoir, there is a need for new watermain connection on Centennial Drive and an upsize of the watermain along Maplewood Drive.

Project Details
Maplewood Drive Watermain Upsize & Centennial Drive Watermain Connection

To accommodate the closure of Brentwood Reservoir, a new connection to the watermain line along Centennial Drive and the upsizing of the existing watermain line along Maplewood Drive between Centennial Drive and Brentwood Drive will ensure services continue and a flow capacity is maintained.

While this work is being constructed, the Town also plans to realign Maplewood Drive, thereby increasing the pathway/landscaping area along the west side of Maplewood Drive, and providing specific areas for on-street parking.

Construction Schedule

June – August: Underground Utility Upgrades and Connections

  • Work will commence along Centennial Drive, proceed to the southern end of Maplewood Drive and progress northward toward Brentwood Drive.

August – October: Landscaping

  • Landscaping activities will begin upon completion of the underground utility work and will follow the same northward progression.

 Wildflower Reservoir Upgrade

To accommodate the closure of Brentwood Reservoir, the Wildflower Reservoir will require upgrades to the pumping system to hold flow capacity and electrical & building upgrades to correspond with the pump upgrades.

Brentwood Reservoir decommissioning

Working with our partners at Epcor Utilities, the Town will decommission the Brentwood Reservoir and manage the distribution system solely from the existing Wildflower Reservoir until the construction of a new reservoir to the east of town (2040+).

 Maplewood Drive Public Engagement Survey

We’d like to thank those residents who took the time to review and respond to our survey concerning the Maplewood Drive Upgraded Road Project.  This survey was posted on our town website, from September 19 to October 12, 2024.

Door hangers were left at properties directly on Maplewood Drive and the survey was advertised in;

Of the 136 respondents, the preference for trees was a variety of Deciduous/Coniferous at (64%) along with a variety of Shrubs/Grasses (66%).  This included a preference for benches with a widened path (56%) and an asphalt multi-use pathway (93%). Proposal ‘A’ was the preferred choice for landscape design (42 respondents) with options for the green space south of the bus loop to remain as green space (47%). Overall, the majority of feedback from respondents was largely positive regarding the project's outcome. Most negative feedback came from a community group, primarily concerned about the reduction of on-street parking.

Based on the results above, the Town will now work with our consultants to address concerns, finalize the design, and work to estimate the project cost in order to ensure it aligns with approved budgets. Work is scheduled to occur in 2025 however exact dates and durations will be confirmed with the awarded contractors.
