Taxes and Assessment

COVID-19 UPDATE: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Strathmore is supporting citizens and businesses relating to 2020 Property Tax by providing a tax deferral to support taxpayers facing financial hardship.

New COVID-19 tax relief measure provides increased flexibility for taxpayers

The tax payment deadline has been extended from June 30 to October 31 without late payment penalties. The tax due date printed on the bill is June 30. However, the annual 10% penalty applied on July 1 has been cancelled. Property owners have until October 31 to pay their 2020 tax bill without penalty. Any unpaid 2020 tax balance as of November 1 will have a late payment penalty of 10% applied.

This measure of deferring the tax penalty date to November 1 is for both residential and non-residential property owners.

All penalties associated with cancelling or starting a TIPP payment are waived for the balance of 2020.

Those property owners capable of paying on or before June 30 are encouraged to do so, as this will be helping fund essential Town services residents of Strathmore rely on. Citizens and business’ who remain on TIPP will be supporting essential services, as well as ease their ability to budget by making monthly payments and avoiding one large lump payment or penalties.

It's important to remember many of the relief measures announced by The Town, The Province and outside lenders are delaying due dates and waiving late penalties, but the bills will come due later. Those who can continue their participation in the Tax Instalment Payment Plan (TIPP) or those who choose to join TIPP will have the financial stability of spreading out their payments. Those who cannot pay on time should take advantage of the relief measure but keep in mind that the tax bill will ultimately come due.
