Live Exercise September 28, 02023

Emergency Management Live Exercise, September 28, 2023

The Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Partnership (WREMP) will be building relationships and practicing vital response skills during an emergency management exercise on September 28 from approximately 9:00am to 5:00pm.

WREMP is comprised of area partners including Town of Strathmore, City of Chestermere, Wheatland County and the Villages of Standard, Hussar, Rockyford. The live exercise will involve over 200 people from 35 agencies across the region, so that if disaster ever strikes, WREMP will be ready to respond.

The exercise will utilize areas of Strathmore where volunteers will help add sense of reality - so please do not be alarmed if you see portion of the exercise take place in our community. The operational elements of the exercise may be seen by the public – but will not interfere with traffic or other daily activities.

Test or practice alerts will be issued through the Voyent Alerts system. Please help us spread the word that these will be test alerts and are not meant to cause concern or major disruption to the lives of residents. If you haven’t signed up to receive Voyent Alerts yet, create an account so you can stay informed during a local emergency.

❗ In the case of a real emergency on September 28, Alberta Emergency Alerts or Voyent Alerts will still be used to communicate instructions. If you receive an alert that does not include “test” or “practice” please follow the alert instructions immediately.

Key Features

Personalized Communications: Strathmore Emergency Alerts (powered by Voyent Alert!) goes beyond the traditional text based offering by displaying a personalized map, critical information such as the distance and direction from an incident, time of intercept, and preferred evacuation routes from your tracked locations.

Two-way Communications: Administrators can survey users during incidents to receive critical feedback regarding their status and requirement for assistance. Ex. “Yes – I am evacuating” or “No – I need assistance”.

Track Multiple Locations: Strathmore Emergency Alerts (powered by Voyent Alert!) allows you to create and track multiple locations such as “Kids School” or “Mom’s House”. Any event or communication related to your tracked locations will be forwarded to you along your preferred communication channel. Users can place a pin anywhere – you’re not limited to tracking a building. Pin your forage land or crop land.

No Message Fatigue: The smart alerting capabilities ensure that you will only get notified when a communication is relevant to you or one of the locations you are tracking. The concise recipient selection process helps to ensure that a critical notification is not disregarded as unimportant or as spam.

Communications Your Way: Receive alerts over a wide variety of communication channels including mobile apps, text/SMS alerting, email or voice calling You can register for all or one of them.

Tiered Alert Boundaries: Alerts can be multi-leveled with each level containing varied instructions applicable to the locations within each tier. For a wildfire, the critical fire boundary could instruct users to “Evacuate Immediately”; the Evacuation boundary could say “Mandatory Evacuation, Leave now”; the stand-by zone could say “Prepare to Evacuate”; and the advisory zone could say “Monitor the Situation”.

Leaving is Easy: Both mobile applications and web-based accounts provide access to an unsubscribe feature accessed via the menu icon on the top right of the screen/page. If the service isn’t working out simply click on the “Unsubscribe” button and you won’t be hearing from us again.

Privacy

No need to remember another username and password. Instead, the service uses a simple yet highly secure model called Two-Factor Authentication. When you wish to log into your web-based account, go to Voyent’s login page and enter your email or phone number. A 4-digit verification code will then be sent to your email or phone. Once you receive it, enter the code and you will be successfully logged in.

Registration is anonymous, and no information volunteered or derived is shared or used for marketing or data harvesting purposes. Locational information from your tracked locations is only used to determine its proximity to an alert event and to provide critical context within the communications (such as distance and direction).
