Seniors Tax Rebate Program

Providing Support to Low Income Senior Property Owners

Qualifications

  • Applications must be made before November 30th of the tax year being applied for
  • Must be 65 years of age or older
  • Must be registered home owner on title
  • Must reside in home
  • Must provide Notice of Assessment with Application
  • Appicant taxes are in good standing
  • Gross household income is the same as or less than the income thresholds set by the Government of Alberta Senior Benefits Special Needs Assistance Program based on line 150 of the tax year notice assessment
  • Must provide Government issues photo identification
  • Must provide a copy of property tax statement.

 Q: What is the Seniors Property Tax Rebate Program?
 A: The program was designed to provide support to low income senior property owners with municipal property tax increases

Q: How much will the rebate amount be?

 A: The annual income threshold amounts may change annually to match thresholds used by the Government of Alberta.

Q: Do seniors have to apply for this tax rebate?

 A: Yes.  To apply, please visit FCSS at 116, 3rd Ave and the staff will assist you with your application.
Q: What information do I need to bring when applying?

Please bring the following with you:

- Notice of Tax assessment

- Property tax assessment

 Q: Will the spouse or estate of the land title owner qualify for the rebate if the title holder is deceased or living in a care facility?
 A: Each individual situation will be assessed and every effort will be made to accommodate unique situations such as these
Q: After qualifying, how long will it take to recieve the rebate?
 A: Processing time for each application will take a minimum of 30 days.  Please note that this is a pilot project, and this timeframe is an estimate only, it may take longer
 Q: Will successful applicants automatically apply for next year?
 A: No, Seniors will be required to apply each tax year from July 1 through November 30.
