Addictions Week

National Addictions Awareness Week highlights solutions to help address harms related to alcohol and other drugs. It provides an opportunity for people in Canada to learn more about prevention, to talk about treatment and recovery, and to bring forward solutions for change.

Join the Strathmore FCSS for a week of informative events. Learn more about substance abuse and addictions in a safe, non-judgmental environment. 

Tuesday November 23: Cannabis Conversation 1:30pm - 3:00pm  Location: Trellis Bottom Level, 419B 2nd Street 

Josh from Mint Pharmacy will be providing a conversation explaining cannabis from the bottom up: what does THC percentage mean? What about CBD? How do these chemicals interact in the body? Is there a difference when you smoke vs vape? What about edibles? Informative, practical, and accurate, this conversation will help youth, families, and individuals better understand and make informed choices about what they consume. Ages 15+.

Tuesday November 23: Youth Opiate Conversation, 5:00pm Get the Zoom Link here

Joanne from AHS Addictions and Mental Health will provide education about the different kinds of opiates, including fentanyl. This discussion will go over what opiates are, how they impact the brain, and how the opioid crisis impacts individuals and communities. This event will also include naloxone training. 

Thursday November 25: Community Conversation 6:00pm - 7:00pm at the Strathmore Library

Addiction impacts us all: whether you’ve experienced an addiction or know someone that has, or recognize the impact addiction has on the community as a whole. We want to come together to talk as a community to make connections and work together to better support one another. All ages welcome. *Conversations about addiction may be triggering for some people. 

Friday November 26: What is Addiction? 1:30pm - 2:30pm at the Strathmore Library Get the Zoom link here

Ogtaibe from AHS Addictions and Mental Health will be holding a conversation and providing education on all things substance abuse and addiction. What are the differences? How does it happen? How can someone help? This conversation is aimed at youth looking to learn more as well as families seeking for information to pass onto their youth. It will be a great learning experience for people ages 15+.
