Red Cross Month

March is Red Cross Month. We are proud to honor our own Sean Freeman, Fire Safety Codes Officer with the Town of Strathmore, who is also an active volunteer with the Red Cross. Recently Sean travelled to Honduras where he worked in an Emergency Health Clinic to support those affected by Hurricanes Eta and Lota. These powerful category 4 storms devastated the region last November.

The Canadian Red Cross has helped more than 3,400 people at its emergency health clinic in Honduras. The clinic filled a vital need in La Lima, one of the areas most affected by the hurricanes. As a result of their support, local medical facilities that were damaged by the hurricanes we able to reopen to the community in February. Although the emergency medical clinic was no longer needed the Canadian Red Cross continues to work with the Honduran Red Cross to strengthen their ability re-deploy donated equipment to deliver basic emergency services when needed.

Without the help of passionate volunteers, the Red Cross could not bring emergency relief to those who need it most.  Canadian Red Cross personnel are known around the world for their ability to respond to emergencies and address the needs of people in vulnerable situations. Volunteering can make a big difference in your community. It’s also a great way to stay active, apply skills, and meet new people while making a difference in someone’s life.  Volunteer postings are online at: www.redcross.ca
