Highlights from the Meeting of the Committee of the Whole

These highlights are presented to the public as information, but are not official minutes of this meeting.

Council received information on and discussed several initiatives:

  • Waste Management provided an update to Council on data from the first half of 2020. Information on personnel and volumes was included in the update. WM reported an 8% increase in waste volume and a 28% increase in organics since last year. 
  • Mr. Wes Walker presented information to Council regarding the installation of a Horseshoe Pitch area. Potential sites were considered and Council passed a motion that administration communicate with Mr. Walker and return to Council with details.
  • Administration presented information about the 14,000 Tree Initiative. Administration provided two options for council consideration along with cost analyses. Council directed administration to compile a plan and report to compare this initiative to annual planting expenses, which will be brought to council at a future meeting
  • Council was provided with an update on the Municipal Development Plan and asked to complete a survey to provide insight. Administration will return with more details in November
  • Administration sought Council input on the Public Participation Policy, which will be brought forward during the September 16 meeting
  • Administration requested authorization of a grant application to be submitted to the Province of Alberta for Municipal Stimulus Grant funding for priority projects. Council passed a motion to authorize the application
  • Additionally, Council extended their condolences to Siksika Nation, who are mourning the loss of Elder Yvonne Blackhorse
