Strathmore Disc Golf – A Walk in the Park

Strathmore offers a free disc golf course for all to enjoy, free of charge!

You may have enjoyed our beautiful pathways and watched the pelicans in Elmer and Phyllis Gray Park, but have you ever thought of playing a little Disc Golf?

Disc Golf is very similar to golf, except the players throw a disc instead of hitting a ball and best of all – no green fees! The goal is simple, throw the disc from each tee location into the wire basket located down the fairway in the least number of throws. Holes are indicated by posted tee signs and markings on pathways. Click here to view Strathmore’s course map.

Strathmore’s course is rather unique as it hosts 18-holes which meander across multiple parks, throughout the town. Players have the opportunity to experience the town as they migrate along the canal and past various ponds and forested natural areas.  It’s a healthy walk through nature, good for your body and mind. The best type of exercise is the kind when you’re having so much fun that you don’t even realize you’re exercising! Plus, it’s COVID friendly too. Players use their own discs and can easily physically distance with their foursome, threesome, twosome or there is the option to play alone.

Disc Golf is great for everyone! If you’re new to the sport you can start by purchasing one disc while pro level golfers may purchase multiple discs in different shapes and weights for different scenarios such as putting or driving. Local player Josh Kennedy sells discs and gear in Strathmore. Check out his website at www.jkdiscs.com

If you’re new in town or just like to meet new people Strathmore has a thriving disk golf community. The Strathmore Disc Golf Club holds yearly tournaments and regular league nights open to all ages and abilities.

“It’s a great family outing for very little to no money, it’s COVID safe, it’s as competitive as you want to take it, there’s a course in almost every major city in over 40 countries. Besides all these things, there’s nothing quite like watching a disc manipulated to fly the perfect path you wanted to.  There’s a creativity and ‘art’ to throwing a disc that’s different than any other sport I’ve played. explained Matt Byma, president of the Strathmore Disc Golf Club.

Strathmore also has one of the largest junior leagues in the area. It’s a healthy way to get kids to unplug for a few hours.
