Council Meeting Highlights, September 7, 2022

In attendance: Mayor Fule, Deputy Mayor Peterson, Councillor Langmaid, Councillor Mitzner, Councillor Montgomery, Councillor Wegener, Councillor Wiley

At last evening’s Council Meeting Council received reports from Calgary Zone EMS Operations and RCMP Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz. They also held a Public Hearing regarding the Land Use Amendment Bylaw, approving the redesignation of a parcel to allow for Phyto Organix to develop a pea processing facility.

  • Council held a Public Hearing regarding the Land Use Amendment Bylaw. The proposed amendments would allow for Phyto Organix Foods Inc. to redesignate a parcel for the development of a pea processing facility.
  • Calgary Zone EMS Operations presented a report to Council that included call volumes and response times for Strathmore and Wheatland County from the 2021/2022 fiscal year.
  • RCMP Staff Sergeant Mark Wielgosz presented the RCMP Q1 Municipal Policing Report.
  • Council reviewed several items as part of the Consent Agenda including:
    • Marigold Library Agreement
    • WHMB Board Meeting Minutes
    • Letter Regarding Strathmore Stampede Thank You
    • Letter Regarding Communities in Bloom Thank You
    • Letter Regarding Peculiar People Assembly's BBQ Thank You
    • Letter Regarding Citizenship Award Thank You

  • Council gave second and third reading to the Land Use Bylaw Amending Bylaw 22-21.
  • Council authorized the Mayor to sign a letter of support to Emission Reduction Alberta in support of the Phyto Organix proposal to the Circular Economy Challenge.
  • Council discussed the option to add additional flag poles to the Strathmore Municipal Building to allow for special flags to be displayed in recognition of key community events and recognize partners like Siksika Nation. Council approved the installation of one additional flag pole to be installed at the Strathmore Municipal Building.
  • Council reviewed highlights from the Marigold Library System board meetings.
