Council Meeting Highlights from March 16, 2022

In attendance: Mayor Fule, Deputy Mayor Montgomery, Councillor Langmaid, Councillor Mitzner, Councillor Peterson, Councillor Wegener, Councillor Wiley

At last evenings Council Meeting, Council received several reports, passed the Non-Residential Municipal Tax Amending Bylaw and proclaimed March 20 as Strathmore Day!

  • RCMP Detachment Commander Mark Wielgosz, presented the Quarter Three Municipal Policing Report to Council.
  • Members of Happy Cat Sanctuary presented a report to Council containing rescue, adoption and community assistance statistics. A financial report was also included. A proposal will return to Council on April 6.
  • Council approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Town of Strathmore and the Strathmore Handi-Bus Association.
  • Council proclaimed March 20 as Strathmore Day to celebrate our community’s history and local culture.
  • Administration presented information to Council regarding adding a tier to the Business License Bylaw for Micro-businesses.
  • Council reviewed the Campaign Disclosure Statement report from the 2021 Municipal Election.
  • Council reviewed the Wheatland and District Emergency Medical Services Association monthly meeting report from February 22, 2022.
  • Councillor Wiley made a motion regarding a Post-Secondary Attraction & Retention Policy. Council directed Administration to prepare recommendations based on the research in other communities as well as to identify elements in the ‘Alberta 2030’ initiative that address Strathmore’s post-secondary needs, and to report back to Council with this information within 30 days.
  • Council gave first, second and third reading to Bylaw 22-09, the Non-Residential Municipal Tax Amending Bylaw.
  • Council gave first, second and third reading to Bylaw 22-10, the Council Procedure Bylaw.
