Highlights from the Regular Meeting of Council

Wednesday, January 21, 2021

In attendance: Mayor Fule, Deputy Mayor Peterson, Councillor Bauer, Councillor Cockx, Councillor Corbiell, Councillor Montgomery, Councillor Sobol

The Town of Strathmore Council discussed several bylaws and initiatives:

  • Three Bylaws passed first, second, and third reading: Bylaw 21-02 Fees Bylaw Amendment Bylaw – Bulk Water, Bylaw 21-01 Supplementary Assessment Bylaw, and 21-05 Election Bylaw Amendment Bylaw
  • Minutes were approved from the December 2 public hearing and regular meeting
  • Council approved a minimum reserve bid for four (4) parking spaces to be sold through tax auction in 2021. Administration has been unable to contact the property owner to resolve an outstanding tax balance owing
  • Council approved an application to Land Titles to remove the Municipal Reserve designation from a piece of land on the northwest corner of Highway 1 and Highway 817
  • Administration presented a report to Council regarding skating on Strathmore Lake. Council discussed safety concerns, community expectations, and a potential bylaw regarding recreation use of storm ponds expected at a subsequent meeting. Administration confirmed that additional spaces would be cleared on Strathmore Lake in the areas with least risk of danger, and that the report to Council would be shared with the community
  • Jimy Kalia was approved for a position on the Sustainability Committee
  • Reports for information were provided by Council representatives to WADEMSA, the Traffic Advisory Committee, Strathmore Wheatland Chamber of Commerce, Wheatland Housing, the Library Board, and the CMRB
  • Council approved a motion that Strathmore join the Coalition of Inclusive Municipalities
  • A motion for the addition of Alternate Representatives to the next Organizational Meeting of Council was approved
