City of Chestermere joins the Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Partnership

Building capacity across our region.

Wheatland County, Alberta | March 4, 2023 - Uniting resources ensures a strong, coordinated regional response to emergencies. The Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Partnership (WREMP) was established approximately two years ago to coordinate emergency prevention, planning, mitigation, response, and recovery in the Wheatland County area. The partnership includes Wheatland County, the Town of Strathmore, the Village of Hussar, the Village of Standard, the Village of Rockyford and now, the City of Chestermere.

“The WREMP promotes increased coordination, cooperation, collaboration, capacity and integration between all levels of government during all phases of emergency management: planning and preparedness, response, recovery and mitigation. It also enhances emergency preparedness, public education and common public messaging for key hazards the region may face. This will strengthen regional information sharing, communications, joint planning and training and exercises,” said Sara Coutts, Emergency Management Coordinator for the Town of Strathmore.

Accepting the City of Chestermere into the Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Partnership benefits all parties by growing capacity, expanding resources, improving collaboration, enhancing emergency preparedness, and increasing efficiency.

“We’re excited to share and grow our knowledge with the City of Chestermere. WREMP brings advantages to our region, including reducing costs, bridging gaps in expertise, deepening resource pools, and providing a coordinated response to emergencies in our region. We’re stronger together,” Chief David Sturgeon, Director of Emergency Management for the Town of Strathmore said.

WREMP is actively pursuing new partnerships. Local governments interested in becoming a member of the Wheatland Regional Emergency Management Partnership have the ability to request membership. Please contact the WREMP Coordinator for more information on joining the partnership.
