Strathmore is a vibrant town with a deep history of agriculture. Strathmore was settled and developed by the CPR in 1883 with the start of building railway track and demonstration farms.

Today, Strathmore is a community of almost 15,000 people located 40 km east of Calgary with convenient access to trail systems through canals, ponds, and wetlands. While agricultural developments cover large areas of the surrounding area, Strathmore provides its residents with the benefits of country living, town services and easy access to large city facilities while residing in an area combining heritage and modern amenities.

Strathmore is a South-Central location.

Part of the Calgary Region, Strathmore is located in southern Alberta, 35 minutes east of the Calgary International Airport. With a population of over 13,000 residents and over 500 local businesses, Strathmore is growing and is a place to do business.

Water and Wastewater

  • The Town of Strathmore purchases high-quality drinking water for the City of Calgary. Residential and Non-Residential customer properties are serviced from this network, with wastewater then returned to the City of Calgary for treatment. All usage is metered. Businesses are responsible for purchasing water meters from the Town of Strathmore (which will supply and install the meter).

 Parks and Pathways

  • Strathmore has kilometers of paved pathways, offering residents and visitors the opportunity to enjoy living a healthy and active lifestyle. Strathmore also offers many cultural, outdoor recreation and natural features within parks’ spaces.

    Known for our well-connected trail system, Strathmore features linked walk/bike trails throughout the town make active transport a way of life. The Kinsmen Park open-space corridor, surrounded by naturalized areas, is a major amenity for the town of Strathmore. Learn more here.

Recreation Facilities

  • The Town of Strathmore operates three indoor recreation facilities:

    • The Strathmore Motor Products Sports Centre, a multi-sport fieldhouse with indoor walking track
    • The Strathmore Family Centre Arena, with a NHL sized ice surface, and an Olympic ice surface with seating for 580 people
    • The Strathmore Aquatic Centre with a 6 lane 25 meter lap pool, Kiddy Pool and Hot Tub

 Education
Strathmore is fortunate to have five Elementary Schools to choose from, Public and Catholic. We also have one K-9 school, a junior high and Catholic or Public High Schools to chose from.

For post secondary offers, Strathmore is near enough to Calgary to take advantage of the post secondary institutions there. Additionally Bow Valley College has a branch locally here in Strathmore.
