Development permits are required to regulate the use of land and buildings in accordance with the Municipal Government Act and the Town of Strathmore’s Land Use Bylaw #14-11.  A development permit is required for most new construction and any change of use.  Prior to commencing any new construction, contact the Planning and Development Department to determine whether a development permit is required.

For information on when a Development Permit is not required, refer to Section 1.15 in Strathmore’s Land Use Bylaw #14-11.
A person applying for, or in possession of a valid development permit, or not requiring a development permit, is not relieved from full responsibility for ascertaining and complying with or carrying out development in accordance with:

1. The Safety Codes Act and the Strathmore Building Permit Bylaw (e.g. Building Permit, Plumbing & Gas Permit, and Electrical Permit)
2. The requirements of any other applicable municipal, provincial, or federal legislation;
3. The conditions of any caveat, covenant, easement or other instrument affecting a building or land.
